The
Chaff Conveyor

Chaff and
waste grain-conveyor for combines:-

Normally
when combining, chaff and waste grain from the combine’s riddle section is
spread on the ground.
By doing this, the wastes are hard to pick up from the ground. With
a chaff and waste grain conveyor mounted on the combine, the material is
collected and dumped on top of the straw. The straw, chaff and waste grain are
then baled together and can be used as feed, bedding material or fuel. In
investigations with several combine manufacturers taking part, the wastes not
utilized amount to 10-25 % of the grain yield. Today the development of combines
is leading to a more intense treatment of the straw, which decrease the utilized
amount of waste even further.
By collecting the waste, several advantages can be gained. The grain yields
increase due to less waste grain and weeds from last years crop. Less spraying
of herbicides and / or tilling, as most of the waste grain and weeds are taken
away from the field when baling. This is much appreciated in systems with
reduced tilling and “ecological” crop farming. Also, the feed value and the
density of the collected material will be higher, if the chaff and waste grain
are included. Another advantage is that less dust will be produced, as the
transport of the chaff and waste grain is done without fans.

The
drawing shows how the chaff and the waste grain is dumped on top of the straw.
Advantages with the
chaff and waste grain conveyor:-
•
More feed from the acreage.
•
More energy from the acreage (when burning the waste).
•
Less waste grain and weeds in next year's crop.
•
Heavier bales, giving less volume to transport.
•
Less spreading of weeds i.e. better economy for you, and a better environment
for everybody.
Technical description:-
The equipment consists of a hydraulically driven chain conveyor, oil tank
with pump, gear box and a pilot valve. The robust construction leads to lower
maintenance costs.
The equipment can be assembled on all types of combines.
